Heiken-ashi candlesticks

Keep up the great work ,your help is truely appreciated.You make things so easy to understand.

First, thank you for your great work in providing these indicators.

I trade with a combination of the Smoothed on my chart, and the Smoothed Alert below the chart. I find the latter mirrors the regular HA candlestick rather than the smoothed...don't know why they even call it smoothed.

This way I can have both for the long term trend, as well as entry signals without cluttering my chart.

Smooth and regular HA can be similar if the markets display clear trends, but when it gets choppy, the smoothing factor will play its role.

OK this sounds good but I'm a American, why do I needs China ? No thanks! I'm proud to be an American.

I think everyone has to believe in something. In trading this can be about Heiken ashi candlesticks, because they are quite good, but can be also about other tools, or raw market charts or anything else.

"OK this sounds good but I'm a American, why do I needs China ? No thanks! I'm proud to be an American." are sure you are an american trader? as far as I know they all smart.. but u.. hahaha dont even know that heiken ashi is from japan not china.. :P

How well does this perform in a ranging/choppy market. It looks great when there are nice trends but what clues can we get from a messy chart. What do we look for to stay out of the market until a trend forms?

It performs acceptably well. you may balance at zero or loose/gain a few pips, but the real profits come when the trend is back.

I am using HA Smoothed and have the first instruction paper from Don Steinitz. It it, he make reference to a 2nd paper and additional instructions such as "There is another candle that you will see from time to time. It is a red body with a blue wick or blue body with a red wick. I will go into that later". There is also a statement about the color bars in the lower panels. Anyone have this additional information. Please reply directly to [email protected].

PURELY BY ACCIDENT AND BEING NEW TO META TRADER 4 I HAVE SET UP HEIKEN ASHI ITS BRILLIANT HOWEVER I WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE THE CANDLES OR HIDE THEM DUE TO NOT USING THE PLATFORM MUCH.

COULD SOMEBODY ADVISE HOW TO DO THIS SIMPLE TASK.

I CHANGED THE CANDLES TO BARS IN ORDER THAT THE H. A WOULD SHOW UP BETTER AND NOTICED A DOJI IN THE H ASH TURNING RED AND THE HIGHS OR LOWS SHOW WHICH MAY BE USEFUL.

To remove candles from chart:

> Right click on chart
> Properties
> Click on color Tab
> Change the color to "None" on these following - Bar Up, Bar Down, Bull Candle, Bear candle
> press ok

You would not see any more candlesticks :)

Hi there,

The correct spelling is heikin-ashi, not Heiken-Ashi or Heikin-Ashi.

The first book on this subject is out now, written by the author who made it available in 2004 to the Western traders (retail and pros)
Great book with far more information than the nice visual charts.

Further to your recent answers, there is another way do this...

From Chart properties (F8 or right click->Properties...)
Select the Colors tab, and set the Line graph colour to the same as the chart background colour.
Click OK.

Then to hide the candles or bars, just select Line graph from the menu (or use Alt+3).
Select candlesticks or bars from the menu (Alt+1 or Alt+2) to get them back!

Of course if you use Line graphs, then this trick won't work!
